Scam targets local pet owners on Facebook – Journal Global Online

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY) – A Facebook scam is targeting people in our area. The Fond du Lac Police Department warned about it, calling this latest scam “creative.”

The post uses the City of Fond du Lac and police department logos.

It says if your pet urinated on a carpet or furniture because of the city fireworks over the weekend, the Fond du Lac Police Department will pay you a one-time reimbursement of $500.

It claims this offer is for anyone who lives in the City of Fond du Lac.

It says no proof of damage is needed, which is a red flag.

It may be more of a prank than a scam: Instead of trying to get your personal information, it wants you to show up at the police department in person.

You shouldn’t share this post or help to circulate it online.

It’s another reminder to be mindful about online content.
